We are looking for a Caretaker to be part of the Property Team and drive performance of the service levels whilst delivering an outstanding student experience. Caretakers will be responsible for driving high quality customer service, the safety and welfare of the students should always be paramount. The caretaker role is a over night lone working role and therefore candidates must be comfortable working within this environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To ensure residents receive a high standard of customer service at all times

• To carry out planned and reactive building fabric maintenance and repair duties across all

 of the property as instructed by Helpdesk / Property Manager

• Carry out minor remedial works on plumbing and drainage systems

• Carry out minor redecoration works as required or on an opportunity basis

• Assist with furniture moves / white goods / porterage tasks as required

• Carry out luminaire / lamp changes as instructed

• Carry out minor fixing works i.e. coat hooks, noticeboards and door hanging

• Carry out good housekeeping duties as required

• To carry out planned and adhoc cleaning duties to buildings and equipment located throughout the buildings.

• To carry out regular clearance of waste bins providing new lining sacks as required.

• To assist on deep cleaning ie carpet cleaning, washing curtains etc during the summer

The above outlines the main duties and responsibilities of the position, however these shouldn’t be considered to be the only ones and there could be additional elements which are included in future commensurate with your skills and training and consistent with the level and responsibilities of the role. You will be expected to work in a multitasking manner and to support other members of the team across a range of other duties as directed by your line management.


• Experience of working in a similar environment where reliance is placed upon individuals carrying responsibility for their actions

• Good customer care skills

• Able to exercise initiative and prioritise duties accordingly

• An understanding of the role of support services with experience of working in an environment in support of students would be an advantage

• Able to work to a high standard against agreed timescales with limited supervision

• Painting and decorating works

• Understanding of health and safety procedures

• Good communication and organisational skills
